A little over a year ago I started working on a character builder for the Pathfinder RPG. Here is an update on my progress.
Techy-work

A little over a year ago I was preparing a Pathfinder game for my son and his friends when we cooked up the idea of creating a Pathfinder Character Builder similar to the Dungeon & Dragons Character Builder. I quickly put together some mockups and a very simple prototype. I created a web site, wrote about my project, and created a mailing list to see how much interest there was. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

So I decided to keep at it. I worked nights and weekends, but the project was progressing slowly. (Working nights and weekends when you have three kids is very difficult.) Despite the slow progress, my mailing list was growing; I kept getting positive feedback, and every gamer I spoke with expressed interest. So about eight months later I quit my day job and started working on the character builder full time. Now I'm proud to write that I'm about 80% done. There are a handful or so of features left to complete. For example, I still need to finish magic item creation and spell selection. But the launch is near!

In about a week, I’m going to submit Character Explorer to Kickstarter to gather support for the last stretch of development. I will also publish a video tour of the application so you can see how far along I am.

In the meantime, if you haven't already, please sign up for the Character Explorer newsletter, and follow me on Twitter or Google+. I send updates, I pick random subscribers for beta testing, and right before launch, I will send out special offers.
